Johnny’s Half Shell “going to try to reopen after labor day”

1819 Columbia Road, NW

Thanks to Adam for sending the Johnny’s Half Shell Update [it augurs well indeed!]:

“I was walking in Adams Morgan today when I saw the owner of Johnny’s Half Shell painting the patio fence [both of us has masks on]. I excitedly asked if this meant they were reopening, to which he replied that they were going to try to reopen after labor day.

He said they have spent the last few months trying to make sure that the staff at all of his restaurants got paid and that they were looking at buying a truck to do local deliveries without charging a fee (like third party companies do). Overall, he emphasized that safety was the #1 priority and that it’s just been too unsafe to open.

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting take out as soon as he re-opens. Gotta support local businesses that take care of their staff and put safety over profits.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
