Commuter Connections: Commute With Confidence With A Guaranteed Free Ride Home

Essential workers who must commute to work amid the pandemic lockdown are still assured a guaranteed free ride home should their transportation plans change.

Commuter Connections is here to help you Commute with Confidence as the region starts to re-open with commuting tips and resources. Local transportation providers are following safety guidelines to ensure a safe shared commuting environment.

Commuter Connections, the regional network of transportation organizations coordinated by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, continues to offer all of its usual services during this time of crisis, including the free Guaranteed Ride Home program for those using transit, carpool or vanpool, and bicycling or walking to get to and from work.

You can still get a free ride home up to four times a year, at no charge and organized by the nonprofit Commuter Connections.

In addition to the usual requirements — such as setting up a free account — face coverings are required for transit and Guaranteed Ride Home until further notice. Your safety and the safety of the driver are important.

What are other benefits of the Guaranteed Ride Home program? Members gain, above all else, peace-of-mind about making it home, and it’s a free program designed to encourage ridesharing, which is what Commuter Connections is all about. (Some restrictions on the Guaranteed Ride Home program apply; see the website for details.)

New members can sign up for the program here or call 800-745-RIDE. Read more about Commuting with Confidence here.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
