Two Traffic Fatalities Monday: 18 Year Old Pedestrian Killed in Takoma; 73-year-old Driver Killed near the Arboretum

“Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic crash involving a pedestrian that occurred on Monday, June 8, 2020, in the 7000 block of Piney Branch Road, Northwest.

Preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 9:17 pm, a vehicle was traveling in the listed location when it struck a pedestrian. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the crash and determined the pedestrian displayed no signs consistent with life. The pedestrian remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent has been identified 21-year-old Timothy Abbott, of Northwest, DC.

Preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 10:40 am, a vehicle was traveling in the 2800 block of New York Avenue, Northeast, when it struck another vehicle. The striking vehicle continued to travel through the intersection of New York Avenue and Bladensburg Road, Northeast, colliding with two additional vehicles. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the operator of the striking vehicle to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified 73-year-old Doris Turner, of Northeast, DC.
