“Kindess Rock Project”

“Dear PoPville,

Like many families in DC (and around the country), I have found myself at home with my 9 year old daughter with many hours to fill.

A good friend let me know about the Kindness Rocks Project, and my daughter and I painted some rocks over the last few days.

Just this morning we walked around the neighborhood and picked a few spots to leave them for people to find and hopefully bring them a smile.

I was thinking that it would be really cool for my daughter if people looked for them, maybe took one home, or took a picture of it (with clean hands) and shared it with friends, or posted it on instagram and tagged it #kindnessrocksdc. Maybe even create some kindness rocks of their own and place them around their neighborhood (all with social distancing of course).

Here is where we placed them, and we have plans to do more!
On Columbia between P & O
Corner of 9th & B
In front of the door of Beau Thai
In a planter at Compass Coffee on 7th
On the corner of 7th & Q across the street from Dacha
On 7th in front of the Lafayette Building
On the corner of 7th & Rhode Islan
On the corner of 11&R near the church
On 11th near the dog park”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
