“New Kitchens On The Block returns to Mess Hall on Sunday, April 5, 2020. The seventh edition of the now-biannual food festival offers a onetime-only opportunity to savor signature dishes and drinks from 9 of DC’s most hyped new restaurants by the city’s buzziest, award-winningest chefs – before they open.

Smokecraft Modern Barbecue by pitmasters Andrew Darneille and Marc Leone

Lazy Kate’s by restaurateur Hakan Ilhan

Hank & Mitzi’s Italian Kitchen by chefs Jamie Leeds and Will Artley

Cenzo’s Upper Eastside by restaurateur Shaun Sharkey and chef Margaux Riccio

Jerk at Nite by chef Denville Myrie

SHŌTŌ by restaurateur Arjun Waney, partner Tunu Puri, and managing partner Arman Naqi

Guests will have the first chance to try City-State Brewing Co., opening down the block from Mess Hall this fall. Founder James Warner will serve the Right Stuff beer, exclusively brewed for New Kitchens On The Block. Easy drinking and designed to pair with a variety of dishes, it’s made with experimental hops, novel yeasts, and unique grains from upstart sources. Another new addition to the event is Brandon Byrd’s eye-catching, vintage vibed Prosecco Van, which will be on hand to serve bubbly. And there will be cocktails galore powered by spirits provided by our generous sponsors – New Columbia Distillers’ Green Hat Gin, El Silencio Mezcal, and One Eight Distilling.

In other egg-citing news, multidisciplinary artist Aphra Adkins will be on hand to showcase an egg-inspired series of works, including a selfie-friendly, Instagram-ready wall installation and a series of photographs.

Date and time: Sunday, April 5, 2020 for two separate two-hour sessions; 12-2 p.m. and 3-5 p.m.

Location: Mess Hall; 703 Edgewood St NE

Tickets: Available on Eventbrite. There are a limited number of early bird tickets for $75. General admission is $85. Additionally, there are a limited number of VIP tickets available for $135, which include epic swag-not-schwag bags.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
