Shop Made in DC coming to The Roost in Hill East

From an email:

“Shop Made will be the first – and only – retail concept coming to The Roost this spring. The newest Shop Made outpost will open within the 12,500-square-foot food hall located beneath Blackbird, the newly developed 167-unit residential building on the corner of Pennsylvania Ave and 14th (SE) on Capitol Hill.

The Roost’s Shop Made in DC will be modeled after the newest outpost which opened in Canopy by Hilton Embassy Row earlier this month, operating as a much smaller “storelet.” Stacey Price is approaching the curation of goods at this new line of storelets differently from how she typically stocks her larger stores; she’ll still be able to carry around 40 makers in the space (which will have built-in shelving to expand from 100 to approx. 250 sqft of product), but it will be highly edited – featuring a small capsule collection of 1-2 items from each maker, as opposed to a wider line of goods that she carries at stores with larger footprints.

As is the case with all of Shop Made in DC’s locations, the inventory carried at The Roost will aim to meet people where they are; for example, the Canopy storelet is stocked with curated goods centered around the traveling hotel guest and what they might need when shopping at that particular location (luggage tags, totes, bath products, DC onesies, etc), while still adhering to the philosophy of the Shop Made in DC mission. Stacey will curate The Roost’s outpost in a similar fashion – taking into account the residents above the food hall at Blackbird, as well as our neighbors in the surrounding area. Photo above from the new Canopy storelet for reference, as The Roost’s outpost will be very similar in size and scope.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
