Your Afternoon Animal Fix – AdoPtville

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Dobby is a sweet, caring and wonderful dog. He has the cutest habit of sitting on a stool so he can watch out the window as his people leave and return home.

This fun boy is a loyal friend who loves to sit near (or on) his people and get belly rubs and ear scratches. When Dobby makes a new friend at the dog park, he gets the “zoomies” and starts running around in circles like an Olympic sprinter with his new friend! Dobby is happy to sit near you quietly all day or go for a long walk, whatever you prefer. He’s also a huge fan of playing with his toys, and when playtime is over, he drags them around the house as he lovingly follows his people around. He is a good learner, and he knows the command “leave it” and does very well with “drop it” if he isn’t feeling anxious. Dobby will do best in a home outside the city with another dog, and he is not a fan of loud mechanical noises. Dobby’s adopters will be very lucky indeed!

Dobby is adoptable through City Dogs Rescue. Learn more here.

Fern is a loving and playful cat. She is able to keep herself occupied throughout the day, playing well with other cats and the resident dog. She enjoys the simple toys, usually preferring a plastic spring or an old headband more than the fanciest and priciest toys! She’s also recently developed an affinity for an old comb and kept herself entertained for longer than one would anyone would suspect from an old comb. Maybe Fern has aspirations in the hair industry?!

Regardless of her career goals, Fern is very loving and often comes to lay on your chest in bed. If you’re on your phone, she’ll gently give it a nudge to let you know she’s more important than a screen (obviously). If you’re watching TV, she’ll often curl up behind you on the back of the sofa and relax right along with you. She LOVES to help you make the bed every morning. She has the uncanny ability to sense when you’re ready to make the bed even if she’s in the other room. You can bet for sure that she’ll dart into bedroom, make herself at home in the middle of the bed and supervise the activity. You’ll never have to make the bed alone with Fern around. Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
