From a press release:

“In response to the ongoing national fried chicken sandwich craze pitting Popeye’s against Chick-fil-A, celebrated neighborhood bar Service Bar in Shaw is preparing to kick-off their new rotating monthly local fried chicken sandwich culinary series – ‘FRIED’. Beginning tonight, Wednesday, December 18th, from 5pm until close – the talented team at Service Bar will be sharing creative twists on community-centric fried chicken sandwiches featuring some of the DC areas most celebrated chefs. The ‘FRIED’ creative culinary series will launch to the public this evening featuring critically-acclaimed Chef Kevin Tien of Hot Lola’s and Emilie’s. The series will feature a new local chef and their fried chicken sandwich each month for the next six months.

District-based fried chicken sandwich connoisseurs won’t need to venture out to Virginia to indulge in Chef Kevin Tien’s highly buzzed about Sichuan + Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich from Hot Lola’s. The sandwich will be available at Service Bar’s ‘FRIED’ creative culinary series December 18th, 2019 through January 18th, 2020 featuring a juicy and flavorful fried chicken thigh, slaw, pickles, and comeback sauce, served on a sesame seed bun. Each month a new local chef will have the opportunity to debut their version of the perfect fried chicken sandwich with additional celebrated local chefs to be announced in the coming weeks including celebrated Executive Chef Johanna Hellrigl of soon-to-open Mercy Me, amongst others. A portion of proceeds from the sales of all fried chicken sandwiches will be donated to each featured chefs local charity of choice. Chef Tien has selected Human Rights Campaign – HRC – as his charity of choice.

“With the ongoing buzz surrounding Popeye’s and Chick-fil-A’s fried chicken sandwiches, we thought it would be fun to organize a creative community-centric fried chicken sandwich series at Service Bar – FRIED – featuring some of our favorite chefs in the DC area and giving fried chicken sandwich lovers access to many of the popular sandwiches only available in Virginia, Maryland, and other parts of the District”, said Chad Spangler, co-owner of Service Bar. “There are so many talented chefs here that are doing unbelievable things with fried chicken sandwiches so we’re excited to be able to showcase them along with our drinks. Everyone knows fried chicken pairs well with Champagne so that will be an option to enjoy with the sandwiches along with a selection of beers and our hyper seasonal craft cocktails.”

“I’m really excited to be working with Chad Spangler and Glendon Hartley at Service Bar on this community-focused culinary collaboration”, said Executive Chef/Owner Kevin Tien of Hot Lola’s and Emilie’s. When I first moved to the DC area 8 years ago, I had the opportunity to work with them and they truly showed me what DC hospitality is all about. I feel that their ‘FRIED’ culinary series is going to be such an exciting way to showcase talented local chefs, their creative twists on fried chicken sandwiches, and Service Bar’s phenomenal beverage program.”

Reservations are not required and the fried chicken sandwiches will be offered on a limited first-come first-served basis throughout each month.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
