What does landing a plane on an aircraft carrier after dark have to do with the kind of challenges teams face in the private sector?

In some ways, not a lot, says Steffanie Easter, Director of Navy Staff for the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon. “But the principles are the same. And that’s about making sure that everybody has a common view of what you’re trying to accomplish. Make sure they have the tools that they need… And make sure that they understand the interdependencies.”

Here, Easter talks with Francie Dalton, a faculty member in the Georgetown University Master’s in Human Resources Management program, about what the military can teach civilian leaders.
