Applications Open for Food & Beverage Entrepreneur Workshop Series

Calling all D.C. food and beverage entrepreneurs!

A new workshop series for growth-stage business owners* begins this January at Union Market. Applications opened this week and will close on Friday, December 6.

Cureate — a provider of education, technical assistance and consulting services for local entrepreneurs — is launching Cureate Courses, a workshop series for local small businesses looking to grow, scale and succeed in the highly competitive food services landscape.

Accepted applicants will be enrolled in a series of 10 workshops taught by leading industry experts, held at Union Market from January to August 2020. Featured experts include:

  • Lindsay Mannix and Gavin Wade of Polygraph, the D.C. based design firm behind CAVA and Little Pearl branding
  • Brand Strategist and Creative Marketer, Nikki Rappaport
  • Chef Ruben Garcia, Creative Director for ThinkFoodGroup

In addition, Enrollees will have access to the following opportunities:

  • Chance to participate in a pitch competition where select Enrollees will compete in front of a panel of investors and buyers for a total of $20,000 in monetary awards
  • Have a product featured and sold at The Village Cafe during a door-opening trial period
  • Ongoing leadership coaching and EQ sessions
  • Regular mentorship sessions with a local buyer
  • Network and source new business opportunities at our Cureate Vendor Fair
  • Generate market research and real-time customer feedback during a farmers-market-style graduation event

*Businesses growing from one to many employees, having grossed over $25,000 in sales.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
