Park It on Car Free Day Starting September 21

Area drivers are invited to leave their motor vehicles parked in recognition of Car Free Days. The international event heightens awareness of the impact of traffic on the quality of life in the region, and is celebrated in more than 2,000 cities in 46 countries.

Car Free Day is officially Sunday, September 22, and runs from Saturday, September 21 through Monday, September 23 in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region.

Participants of Car Free Day are encouraged to share rides, take trains, Metro, bus, bicycle, walk, carpool or vanpool for one, two or all three designated days. Teleworking also counts, say the organizers.

Participants are invited to take the free “Car Free Day Pledge” and are entered into a raffle to win prizes when they commit to the event. Those who already commute “car-free” or “car-lite” are also invited to take the pledge and are eligible to win prizes. All who take the Car Free Day pledge will receive a $30 Nift Gift (neighborhood gift), a gift card app with $30 credit as a thank you for making a difference.

To make going car free easy on Car Free Day and every day, Commuter Connections has a free app called incenTrip, which helps commuters with multimodal transportation options. The app assists in helping commuters choose the best travel modes and travel times, and shows the benefits of these transportation choices.

When commuters use incenTrip, the app calculates rewards points that can be redeemed for cash incentives through Commuter Connections. Bonus incenTrip points will be given to all who take the Car Free Day pledge.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
