Your Afternoon Animal Fix – AdoPtville

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Snezkha and Jack were born in Moscow, Russia, about 14 years ago. Snezkha (which means “Snowflake”) is the “pretty one,” with her thick white coat, husky growl, and mysterious allure (sort of like Lauren Bacall). Jack is more the strong, silent type. We keep an eye on each other and are the best of friends.

In Moscow we were always kept in a canine orphanage, so we didn’t have much contact with people or other dogs, and we were uncomfortable around others. Nobody understood us and they thought we preferred to keep to ourselves, but at the beginning of 2019, a nice person in Moscow arranged for us to come to Washington, D.C.! There, we found ourselves at the Humane Rescue Alliance where we met lots of good people and started to realize how much more the world has to offer!

If you’d like more information or would like to meet us, contact [email protected]. As an added bonus, if you’re over 50, Snezkha’s adoption fee is waived as part of the Boomer’s Buddies program! Standard adoption procedures apply.

At 14 years old, I’m the perfect house companion: I do well on my own, but nothing makes me happier than snuggling or resting near you. I’m quiet at night and let you sleep in, but as soon as you’re awake I’ll greet you with purrs and hope for some snuggles or pets. I always use my litter box and I only scratch on designated scratching posts. When your friends come over, I might hide for a few minutes, and then they’ll become my friends too. If you’d like to meet me through the Humane Rescue Alliance, contact my foster mom at [email protected]. *** As an added bonus, my adoption fee is waived! Standard adoption procedures apply. ***

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
