Uptown Market Progress Report

4465 Connecticut Ave, NW

Uptown Market (in the former Soapstone Market space) has posted two liquor license placards:

“New Retailer’s Class “C” Restaurant serving beer, wine, limited cocktails to complement individual meals of meat, seafood, vegetables, and starches. Sidewalk Café Endorsement with 32 seats. Total Occupancy Load is 100 with seating for 54 patrons.”

And

“New Retailer’s Class “B” Full Service Grocery store. Tasting Permit Endorsement.”

Stay tuned for an exact opening date this summer.

Their website says:

“Uptown Market is bringing our neighborhood market concept to Van Ness in summer 2019. We’ll be offering locally sourced and thoughtfully curated items in our market stalls – like artisan cheeses, charcuterie, fresh seafood, butcher cut meats, and house baked goods.

We’ll also be serving up breakfast, lunch, dinner and coffee in house or to go. We hope Uptown Market will be a place to find the food you love, either in our market to take home, or enjoyed here. Grab a coffee, a glass of wine, or a bite to eat and stay awhile.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
