Duckling Rescued in SW!!

Matt reports:

“I saw today’s post on ducklings and had to share my experience this morning on the way to the Federal Center SW metro.

I’ve never once seen ducks on my morning commute until today, when I happened on a frantic mama duck and one of her ducklings who was stuck inside a sewer grate. Another passerby also heard the commotion and sprang into action, scooping the duckling out of the grate and reuniting it with its mother.

Meanwhile, I flagged down some SWBID employees after realizing – thanks to some faint quacking – that a different duckling had fallen through the grate and into the sewer/drain below.

Within minutes, the SWBID folks hatched a plan to open the adjacent manhole and scoop the duckling out using a long net that wouldn’t be out of place by a pool.

Thanks to their quick work, it wasn’t long before we all coaxed the duckling to swim toward the net – allowing us to scoop him up and bring him back to the surface. Hopefully this bunch sticks to fountains and ponds from now on!”

We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
