“Dear PoPville,

As the guy who has complained about DC’s lack of decent spots for Nashville Style Hot Chicken I’d like to take a moment and let you know I’ve begun to sing a different tune. I am, of course giving myself (next to) full credit for this spicy chicken renaissance in the city. Were it not for my mildly passive aggressive comments I do believe we would be continuing to live in a dark age of piquant poultry.

In the past week I’ve been made aware of:

Hot Lola’s

The Hot Tiger Bun at Lucky Buns in Adam’s Morgan
Hot Lola’s in Ballston
Roaming Rooster on Bladensburg/in food trucks
Kith and Kin‘s Ethiopian Hot Chicken Sandwich

Over the course of this weekend I had the sandwich at Lucky Buns, which was very tasty. Bartenders were great as well, especially as I was in there reading a book on a thursday night. I’ve also had two different orders at Hot lola’s…tenders both times. The “OG” and the “Too Hot”. I preferred the OG, the Szechuan spices were dynamic and played nicely with the typical Nashville seasonings, whereas the Too Hot traded some of the flavor for heat. But honestly both were fantastic. I’m glad the town seems to be catching on!”
