From a press release:

“JBG SMITH Properties (NYSE: JBGS), a leading owner and developer of high-quality, mixed-use properties in the Washington, DC market, today announced that it has signed three new leases at West Half, its 388,174 square foot mixed-use development project in the Ballpark District slated for completion in early 2020. JBG SMITH also signed a new lease at 1221 Van, its mixed-use development adjacent to West Half.

These three new leases at West Half, which total 7,487 square feet, include two popular DC-based companies. Union Kitchen Grocery, which features grab-and-go options as well as an assortment of locally made products, will open its fourth location in 3,931 square feet. Compass Coffee, the café and roaster founded in DC in 2014, will launch its 15th location in 2,458 square feet. In addition, ice cream shop Cold Stone Creamery, which operates approximately 1,500 locations in over 28 countries, will occupy 1,098 square feet.

These newly announced tenants will join Gatsby, a new concept from acclaimed DC restaurant group Knead Hospitality + Design. In a deal announced last summer, Gatsby will occupy 8,861 square feet over two floors at West Half. The 300-seat contemporary American bistro will offer weekday lunch, weekend brunch and dinner, and operate an all-day gourmet bakery in partnership with New York bakery Mah-Ze-Dahr, whose founder, Umber Ahmad, has been recently nominated for the 2019 Outstanding Baker Award by the James Beard Foundation. In February, Atlas Brew Works signed a lease to open its second local craft brewery and taproom in 4,535 square feet at West Half. When it opens in 2020, Atlas will become the first manufacturing brewery to have multiple locations in the district.

The retail mix at West Half complements the existing retail at JBG SMITH’s adjacent 1221 Van. A nail salon recently signed a 1,565-square-foot lease to occupy the last remaining retail space at the building, joining popular Mexican eatery Mission and District Dogs, the city’s leading dog walking and daycare service. DC favorite Walters Sports Bar and BOOMBOX, a boutique studio offering music-driven, boxing-inspired group fitness classes, are both set to open this spring.

“The dynamic mix of retailers we have signed at West Half and 1221 Van is designed to provide the district’s residents, workers and visitors with an exciting blend of entertainment, food and beverage, and amenity options, further creating a true entertainment district,” said Amy Rice, Senior Vice President of Retail Leasing of JBG SMITH. “We set out to create projects that are every bit as bold and vibrant as the Ballpark neighborhood, and the leasing momentum we’ve experienced is a validation of our efforts.”

Designed by renowned New York-based ODA Architecture, West Half will consist of two levels of retail with 465 rental apartments above – half of which will have balconies with views into the ballpark. The building features an iconic multi-dimensional façade, modern interiors and made-to-measure amenities, including a private-access residents’ lounge, fully equipped fitness center, as well as an expansive rooftop amenity with a pool and artfully designed green spaces. Leasing for the apartments at West Half is set to begin in August of 2019.

1221 Van contains retail on the first two levels and 291 residential units above. The 13-story building features a rooftop equipped with stunning 360-degree views that stretch from the Capitol, to the Washington Monument, to an incredible bird’s eye view right into Nationals Park, where you can take in a game from the rooftop’s stadium seating. Other amenity offerings include an infinity pool with spacious lounging deck, grilling areas, state-of-the-art fitness center and full-service concierge.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
