Public Option/Nomad Dumplings Delicious Fundraiser Tonight

1601 Rhode Island Ave, NE via Public Option

From an email:

“The Public Option is hosting a food popup/fundraiser tonight with Nomad Dumplings (making dumplings, fried rice, and fried noodles tonight 6:00-10:00pm)

With all proceeds going to the following cause:

“We are raising money for high school students in rural Honduras for the NGO @educate2envision. The fundraiser is to help send them to High School.

They are from the rural area outside Tegucigalpa in the coffee growing region. They are smart, hard working, and good kids. In Educate 2 Envision, we help send kids to elementary and middle school. They don’t get these scholarships for free, they have to do community service to pay for their scholarships. These kids decided to help the poorest people in their community as their service. They created surveys, and found the poorest family didn’t have a roof or running water. They carried the materials for these projects up the mountain and installed them with the family in need. Nobody received a handout and they worked together to achieve this economical goal.

Then the kids also found a grandma that had to walk down the mountain to get water and if she didn’t feel she could make the trek she would just drink from a dirty puddle near her home. The students also installed running water for her.

These kids are incredible, and this year we have 25 of them that want to go to High School. That will cost about $17,000 total for part time High School. Whatever we can raise will help with this, these kids deserve an education and anything we can do to help them would be life altering.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
