From a press release:

“DC’s Red White and Basil is saying “Molto Italiano,” according to new owners Mark Hunker and Jeff McCracken. The duo, owners of popular and acclaimed restaurants Duplex Diner in DC and Eden Restaurant and JAM Bistro in Rehoboth Beach DE, is rolling out a fresh new dinner menu for the Adams Morgan/Dupont Circle restaurant. Also new are an expanded Italian wine list and a new cocktail list that features Italian classics such as the Bellini, Lemoncello Spritz, and Negroni.

“There’s no questioning the Italian pedigree of Red White and Basil, but we wanted to take it up a notch,” Hunker said. “Fresh pastas and sauces, new salads, Italian classics like shrimp scampi, calamari, burrata and lasagna, and amazing desserts like cannoli and tiramisu are solid standbys and at the same time new finds. We’re really excited to introduce our new kitchen.”

As with any good meal, adult beverages enhance the atmosphere as well as the food.

“We’ve reimagined the wines and cocktails at Red White and Basil,” McCracken said. “Our Italian wines complement our Italian dishes just as they were intended to, and our new cocktail list will make you think you’re at Harry’s Bar in Venice. We’ve created a total Italian dining experience.”

At Red White and Basil, Hunker and McCracken are following the formula they perfected at their other restaurants: strengthen what works, retool what needs help, and enhance the overall dining experience. Here, that means simplifying the menu to increase the focus on fresh items and emphasizing an Italian-influenced wine and cocktail menu.

Red White and Basil, which has been profiled in Zagat’s Washington guide in the past, features indoor and outdoor seating, friendly and knowledgeable staff, a take-out menu, and a dog-friendly patio.

Red White and Basil is located at 1781 Florida Ave, NW, Washington DC 20009. Open for dinner at 5:30pm every day until 9:30pm on Sunday and Monday; 10pm Tuesday through Thursday; and 10:30pm Friday and Saturday. No reservations required!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
