MONDAY, AUGUST 27

FEELIN’ CRABBY…Yeah, crab is good, but crab on a MLB baseball field? That’s even better. Come eat a crab dinner on Nats Park complete with Old Bay-steamed Maryland blue crabs, garlic potatoes, an Eastern Shore corn salad, cupcakes, and all-you-can-drink Budweiser. Oh, you also get a Nats crab mallet and pint glass to take home, too.

LOCAL PLAYERS…Celebrate local artists at tonight’s Night of New Works event. Republic Restoratives will host DC playwrights, actors, and directors who will perform six new 10-minute plays. This year’s theme is (fittingly) temperature. Come early for a cocktail hour, or stay after for a post-show reception.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 28

CLUCK CLUCK…Bird is the word tonight at a poultry-themed dinner. The Bird and Republic Restoratives are partnering up for a five-course dinner where each dish is fowl-based, and the paired cocktails are chicken-inspired, too. Chicken suits not required.

LET’S TALK DESIGN…Join the D.C. branch of AIA for an architecture-themed talk. Modernism played a big role in the mid-20th century designer world, and can be seen in D.C. public spaces such as Banneker Park and Pershing Park. This discussion will focus on the presence of modernism in D.C., and how such spaces can evolve and adapt to the public’s changing needs and continue to be useable spaces in the future.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29

NOM NOM…Busboys and Poets and the Anthony Bowen YMCA are teaming up for monthly healthy cooking classes. This month’s focus will be a dish from the Busboys menu–a cauliflower sandwich with quinoa salad. The class has an emphasis on easy-to-find ingredients and quick dishes, reminding folks that it doesn’t have to be a pain to eat well.

MURAL MADNESS…The Mexican Cultural Institute has been doing a months-long restoration of its Roberto Cueva del Río mural, which is a three-part series painted during the height of the Mexican muralist movement in the 1930s and 1940s. The piece has six scenes that depicts Mexico’s past and present, as well as the everyday people that make it run. Come by to check out the premiere of the renovated piece, and stay for a talk about the conservation process.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 30

‘ZA AND VINO…You like wine? (Duh.) You like pizza? (Duh.) Come to Timber Pizza to learn how to pair pizza with wine. A sommelier will walk you through the pairing process, going over ingredients and which flavors match well with which wines. And yes, you’ll get to drink wine and eat pizza, too.

HISTORY HOUR…Take a historical tour through Congressional Cemetery and learn about diseases in a new light. The curator of the Museum of National History’s current exhibit on disease epidemics will join forces with a historical tour guide to talk the outbreaks that have plagued the District, from an 18th-century smallpox outbreak to a yellow fever epidemic in the 1970s. No kids under 15, please, and wear comfy shoes for the walking tour.

REMIX…Head to the National Portrait Gallery after-hours. Remix is its happy hour event that takes you behind-the-scenes of its newest exhibits with cocktails and a DJ. Grab a drink and come check out its current exhibit Black Out: Silhouettes Now and Then, which follows the cut-paper medium from the 1700s to contemporary artists.

For many remote workers, a messy home is distracting.

You’re getting pulled into meetings, and your unread emails keep ticking up. But you can’t focus because pet hair tumbleweeds keep floating across the floor, your desk has a fine layer of dust and you keep your video off in meetings so no one sees the chaos behind you.

It’s no secret a dirty home is distracting and even adds stress to your life. And who has the energy to clean after work? That’s why it’s smart to enlist the help of professionals, like Well-Paid Maids.
