Help! “a building nearby installed some crazy bright flood lights!” Never mind. But if you were curious about them, read on

“Dear PoPville,

I live in a new apartment building in Brookland/Edgewood. Recently a building nearby installed some crazy bright flood lights on their roof. It’s ridiculous how bright they are. They turn on and off, and shine into our apartment. It’s very annoying.

I found the building on Google Maps, and called the management company, who brushed me off and said it wasn’t them and it was the building next door. I thought maybe I got it wrong, and confirmed the address again, and verified that I had the correct one. When I tried to call back, they stopped picking up their phone.

I called 311, who directed me to DOT, who then said they can’t do anything about it since it’s not public property. I asked who I should contact, and they said the building management, and there was no public agency responsible for it.

So the question is, who do I contact about getting this resolved? 311 again? My ANC? Their ANC? (It’s on the border of two wards.)”

UPDATE:

“I actually just got a call back from the apartment complex just now. Apparently, it was the security lights for the building that were flashing SOS emergency. The security guard last night finally checked it out, and confirmed the issue. They will be fixing the problem as soon as they can.

It has been going for days now, and was driving me crazy. Seems like they need a different security warning if this was going on for so long without anyone checking.

Also, FYI – I tweeted to DC311, who then told me this was an issue for DCRA. I did call DCRA, but was directed to a voice mailbox, and have not received a response from them.”

We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
