Yeah, 11 years. And no, I have no idea wtf I was thinking 11 years ago.

So, who besides Jimmy Valentine’s still serves rail drinks for $5? How many other joints offer a dance floor and no cover charge w/ DJ’s spinning everything from house to DnB through a stunning Martin Audio sound system? It’s not that we’re trying to be “affordable”, but everywhere else has gotten SO. F******. EXPENSIVE that we’ve become cheap in comparison. And our service is fast and friendly because we want to be there, we’re not texting away while ignoring your needs. Court’s bartended over 6 years, Marcus over 5 years… we love our bar.

There used to be a huge value in building a long-standing reputation as a bar that everyone knew, and from which everyone knew what to expect, but as new bars/restaurants have been opening weekly for 4 or 5 years now, it seems everyone’s focused on whatever’s latest. That’s to be expected, but regardless of whether folks care about “legacy bars” any more, there’s still core points on which any place has to consistently deliver to keep people coming back. Everyone has sad stories about the prevailing apathy (at best) that plagues service across DC, and we’ve already covered the ridiculous prices. Dollar value and customer service still dictate whether most people dig their experience, we doubt that’ll change for a long time.

So we welcome the competition, it’s our job to be great at what we do. There’s always new places opening up, let them be expensive and scramble to distinguish themselves while desperately searching for staff. We know who and what we are, we give good service, we don’t need to jack up prices and we can still pay DJ’s out of our ring.

¡PLEASE JOIN US THIS SUNDAY, 5/27, 9 PM – 4 AM, FOR OUR 11 YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
