“The DC Superior Court wants to update the public on an oversight that resulted in jury summonses for the week of January 29 and February 5 not being mailed in a timely way. The Court has taken steps to prevent any recurrence. More importantly, the Court reports that not one trial was delayed due to an unavailability of jurors.

“We appreciate everyone who serves jury duty throughout the year, but I want to especially thank those who served the past two weeks on such short notice,” said DC Superior Court Chief Judge Robert E. Morin.

“We are most appreciative that you were able to serve without the standard lead time. You allowed us to function with all trials proceeding as scheduled.” “We are grateful to have in our community individuals who recognize the value of jury duty, and who willingly serve and contribute to the administration of justice in the nation’s capital,” said DC Court of Appeals Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby.

DC Superior Court has a One Trial or One Day rule for jury service and DC residents do not have to serve more than once every two years. Jury summons are mailed out four to six weeks in advance. Registration and deferral to a more convenient date can be done online at www.dccourts.gov/jurorservices. If you are scheduled to serve, you may call 202/879-4604 between 5pm and midnight the evening before your summons date to find out if you need to report the following day.”
