Your Afternoon Animal Fix – AdoPtville

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Hello, all. This week’s AdoPtville is a special one. As many of you know Wagtime founder and co-owner Lisa Schreiber died unexpectedly last week. Lisa was a friend of this AdoPtville volunteer, and was a tireless animal advocate, fostering countless dogs at her two Wagtime locations and facilitating many adoptions over the years. Wagtime also donated to and / or fostered for, at Lisa’s direction, essentially every major rescue organization in the DC area, including the Humane Rescue Alliance, Gloucester Matthews Humane Society, and Rural Dog Rescue, and of course Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, with whom Lisa had a close and longtime relationship. While Lisa’s daughter and family were the light of her life, her rescue work was incredibly important to her. I can think of no more fitting tribute to my friend than sharing the stories of, and hopefully helping to find forever homes for, the 6 Lucky Dogs who remain in foster care at Wagtime – Lisa’s Lucky Dogs.

Adalay is a young (about 10 months) 35-lb. Shepherd mix. This sweetheart is playful and affectionate, but quite vocal, so would probably be a little loud for an apartment or condo. Sometimes a bit of a shy girl, Adalay is working on building her confidence, so a home with another dog who can show her the way would be ideal. Learn more about pretty Adalay and apply to adopt her here.

Austin is a Wagtime staff favorite (teacher’s pet) for his affectionate attitude! At about 70 lbs and 3 years old, bulldog mix Austin would be a great companion, who gets along with other dogs and loves his humans, and who will benefit from and really appreciate daily exercise and snuggles! Find out more about / apply for lovable Austin here.

Brody

If you’re looking for a buddy to help you get in shape this New Year, Brody’s your man! A high-energy 4-year-old Shepherd mix, Brody loves to play, and will need regular exercise and perhaps some training to help him focus his energies so he can Netflix and snuggle! You can apply for and learn more about fun guy Brody here.

Marina is a hound’s hound – she notices everything, and feels that the world can be divided into: things to smell, things to eat, things to chase, things to be petted by (not necessarily in that order). Marina will flourish in a loving and stable environment. Please go here to find out more about adding this lovely girl to your family.

As you may have noticed, Mesquite has one prominent feature – his sweetness, of course! This young Shepherd mix can’t wait to find an active home where he can go on runs and learn new tricks in obedience class to impress all the pups on his block. And he probably has pretty good hearing…just sayin’. Learn more about adopting this handsome fella here.

Dog park darling Teddy just wants to have fun! He loves to run and chase / be chased, but is also very polite if somebody’s in a quiet mood – he gets it. Even though Teddy is out of the crazy puppy stages at 2 years old, and full grown at 60 lbs, he can’t wait to learn new things with you in obedience! If you’re looking to add a fun and smiley guy to your life, Teddy’s your man. Check out some more info / apply here.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
