From a press release:

“The team at Colada Shop kicks off the new year with numerous novel Cuban favorites.  Paying homage to the Caribbean way of doing coffee, food, cocktails and social lifestyle, Colada Shop is a casual café and eatery where guests come for the quality of offerings and the unmatched hospitality.

The new menu items offer bold flavors that combine traditional and modern Cuban techniques that celebrate the spirit of the island and tell the story of Cuban culture with every sip and bite.  Guests can anticipate delicious bites such as Avocado Tostada (fresh avocado, pickled onions served on a Cuban-style bread) priced at $6.50 or the quintessential Elena Ruth Sandwich (roasted turkey, cream cheese, and strawberry jam layered on a sweet roll) priced at $9.98.

For those craving a hearty main dish or a light, nutritious fare, Colada Shop has added some fun salads to the menu including the Cienfuegos Cobb Salad (tossed mojo marinated turkey, eggs, bacon, Roma tomatoes, Romaine-spinach mix with cilantro vinaigrette) priced at $9.25, and the Cuban Protein Salad (tossed avocado, Roma tomatoes, heart of palm, black beans, quinoa, pickled red cabbage, Romaine-spinach mix, with mustard vinaigrette) pried at $8.95.

After the wide array of culinary delights of the holidays, it can feel good to indulge on something fresh, bright and light.  That is why Colada Shop is launching a selection of well-balanced, nutritious, and fresh Batidos (smoothies) tinkering with both fruits and vegetables.  Guests can keep up their new year’s resolutions with selections such as the Miami Sunset (carrot, pineapple and orange); In the Tropics (mango, mamey, coconut water or milk); Siempre Verde (spinach, avocado, pineapple, and coconut water); Good For You Mojito (lime juice, mint, spinach and coconut water).  All smoothies are priced at $6.95.

Enthused by the rich history of Cuba and by the lively main street in Miami’s Little Havana, Calle Ocho (or 8th street), the beverage program features 8 specialty cocktails.  New to this selection of classics and originals cocktails are the Colada Rum Toddy (dark rum, apple cider, lime and cinnamon); Babalú (white rum, passion fruit, palo santo syrup and lime); and the Havana Sparkle (white rum, ginger syrup, sparkling wine and lime).  All cocktails are priced at $8.00 with the exception of Bacardi Legacy’s exceptional cocktail, Coki Beach (Bacardi 8, all-spice dram, toasted coconut syrup and lime), which is priced at $10.00

For those seeking a sweet delight, Colada Shop has added crunchy and delicious Churros to the menuthe traditional fried dough pastry which can be enjoyed as a snack or savored for breakfast – priced at $4.50.   For additional $2.00, the treat can be dipped into a thick Spanish-Style Hot Chocolate making it the perfect indulgence in the cold weather months ahead.

All the new menu items will be available starting on January 24th.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
