“Have you ever wondered how many jobs Norway creates and supports in the U.S.?”

Last year’s tree

I can honestly say no. But I love the Christmas Tree they give to Union Station every year!! From the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation:

“The holiday season is upon us once again. So, what better way to kick off the festivities than to attend the 21st Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Union Station?

When: Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm
Where: Union Station Main Hall, 50 Massachusetts Avenue NE
Cost: Free

In continuation of a 21-year tradition, the Norwegian Embassy, on behalf of the citizens of Norway, will present a Christmas tree to the people of Washington, DC.

This generous gift symbolizes gratitude for the assistance Norway received during WWII and appreciation for the strong friendship between the two countries.

This year’s theme highlights Norway’s positive impact on the United States economy. Have you ever wondered how many jobs Norway creates and supports in the U.S.? You can find out on November 29th at our event program featuring Norway’s Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Kåre R. Aas, and other special guests.

After the tree lighting and remarks, there will be a Norwegian Christmas concert. Also, rumor has it, Santa Claus will make an appearance!

Come one, come all for this wondrous occasion.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
