Your Afternoon Animal Fix – AdoPtville

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Chestnut is more than good looks and legs for days… this sweet boy is affectionate, quiet, and eager to please! When he walks, he struts like a supermodel on the runway. Seriously, we have it on video. He doesn’t walk so much as he prances. It’s adorable. Fairly typical for a Whippet mix, Chestnut is sensitive, quiet, and bonds to his humans quickly. His foster reports that he is the perfect houseguest and steals the hearts of nearly everyone he meets, which is why we’re surprised that he’s not already making somebody home a little warmer this fall! Chestnut is about 3 years old and 13 lbs, and is fairly low energy. He does well with gentle children and other dogs. We haven’t cat-tested him yet, but can easily do that if you have feline family members. This boy would love a family of his own to snuggle with and explore the neighborhood. “Ginger is a little female mix of “anybody’s best guess.” She is about 22 lbs and is super sweet and friendly. She loves attention and likes to play with toys. She is 7 or 8 years old, is spayed and just had a dental. She is up to date on her vaccinations as well. Ginger has a little arthritis in her lower spine that causes her a bit of a wobble in her walk. She can do very short walks and gets around just fine, but really prefers a lap to sleep in and attention from her humans. Ginger gets along well with other dogs, and while she hasn’t been cat- or kid-tested, has the kind of mellow personality that works in any household. Quinn is an older lady in need of a true friend in shining armor. She lived with her beloved family for many years, until their newborn’s allergies caused her to be purrsona non grata, but she would make someone a wonderful companion – is it you? Quinn is 10 years old and, in typical tortie fashion, is very loving and cuddly – on her terms. She has lived with people of all ages, as well as dogs, though her puppy knew she was the boss! She is declawed on her front paws and must be an indoor-only cat. Quinn is in good health but she’s confused and sad at the shelter, and really needs to find a home where she can blossom. A special note from Adoptville: As many of you may have heard, Ray Noll, Humane Rescue Alliance’s Director of Field Services, passed away unexpectedly last week. Ray was a “good guy” in every possible sense of that phrase – he spent his law enforcement career working with and caring for animals, culminating in his tenure with HRA. While his position was supervisory, Ray also worked in the field, including helping this Adoptville contributor on more than one occasion. He was the kind of person who would always respond if there were an animal in trouble, because he believed that every animal was worth his time. Ray’s loss is devastating to HRA, and to the DC animal community at large. On October 3, 2017, the DC Council passed the “Standard of Care for Animals Amendment Act of 2017” which had informally been known as “Momma’s Law”. Going forward, it will be called “Ray’s Law” in honor of Ray’s incalculable contributions to the animals (and people!) of DC. While HRA has not yet made any formal requests, anyone who wants to honor Ray would certainly do so by donating to HRA in his memory. Thank you.
