Pitango Gelato + Cafe opening in Adams Morgan this Fall – Much More than Gelato

1841 Columbia Road, NW

From a press release:

“Opening this fall, Pitango Gelato + Cafe will introduce a savory menu featuring charcuterie, sandwiches and pastries along with its signature gelato, sorbets and coffee offerings. In addition, the new shop will serve beer, wine and specialty cocktails combining spirits with gelato, sorbet and coffee. Think fresh mojito sorbet with a splash of dark rum or a scoop of vanilla gelato with Amaretto.

“We’re looking forward to bringing this new concept to the ever-evolving Adams Morgan neighborhood,” says Pitango Gelato founder and CEO Noah Dan. “Like bar-cafés in Italy, this will be a welcoming hangout that hits the spot any time of day, whether you have a cappuccino and croissant in the morning, linger over lunch with friends, treat the kids to gelato, or enjoy an aperitivo with charcuterie.”

Whether he is crafting a Prosciutto di Parma sandwich or a new gelato flavor, Dan’s forté lies in combining traditional Italian methods with an almost obsessive focus on pure, simple ingredients. Like all Pitango locations, the Adams Morgan shop will churn its gelato and vegan sorbets on the premises–not in a factory. At the Adams Morgan location, guests will be able to view and taste gelato as it is being made.

Prepared with grass-fed, organic milk and fresh organic fruit and nuts, these refreshing treats offer a wholesome alternative to industrial products served by ice-cream retailers today. The company sources milk at its own dairy on Spring Wood Organic Farm in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and its products contain no artificial flavorings, colorings, chemicals, preservatives or processed ingredients.

The Adams Morgan coffee program will feature a custom espresso blend developed exclusively for Pitango by local roaster Vigilante Coffee. The blend boasts a silky, caramel and toasty flavor that pairs well with milk. The shop’s beverage menu also includes single-origin Vigilante brewed coffees and loose-leaf teas, served by baristas who undergo a month-long training program to ensure SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) standards.

Pitango Gelato + Cafe in Adams Morgan will serve as a neighborhood hot spot from breakfast to midnight. The shop is located at 1841 Columbia Road, NW, Washington, DC.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
