“DC-based members of the offbeat feminist humor site, The Toast, are holding a bake sale from 10 am until 1 pm on Saturday, June 24 at Brookland’s Monroe Street Farmers Market located at 716 Monroe Street NE (right behind the Brookland Metro Station). All funds raised at the sale will benefit DC Books to Prisons. This is the third sale to be held by DC toasties. The first two sales, held in late 2016, raised enough money to cover two weeks worth of book shipping costs, the organization’s main expense.
Since 1999, DC Books to Prisons – most recently highlighted in The Washington Post — has provided free books to individual prisoners. The all-volunteer organization also works to develop and support prison libraries. Each year the organization delivers over 5,000 packages to prisoners in more than 600 prisons across the United States.
Despite these efforts, many letters must go unanswered due to lack of funds to cover postage. All proceeds from the sale will be used to cover these costs.
Stop by for a wide variety of treats, including homemade cookies, brownies, and sweet and savory quick breads. Dogs are welcome at the market and there will be homemade dog biscuits available for purchase as well.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
