Dance of Days: A Visual History of Punk in DC to benefit We Are Family

Presented by the Monument Music and Arts Festival, Crooked Beat Records, Smash! Records, Positive Force DC, and Affinity Lab

FEATURING:

– 70 minutes of rare video chronicling DC punk rock history including Fugazi, Bad Brains, Government Issue, Bikini Kill, Minor Threat, Nation of Ulysses and more! All presented with commentary by Dance of Days co-author and local activist Mark Andersen
– Bill of Crooked Beat and Matt of Smash! spinning punk classics
– A couple relevant records curated by Bill and Matt
– Light refreshments (feel free to bring your own, there’s tons of options below in Adams Morgan!)

This event is FREE (although we suggest an $8 donation or whatever you can give to benefit We Are Family DC) and open to the public with a request that you PLEASE RSVP here – space is limited!

We Are Family is an outreach and advocacy network started by seniors and their friends providing, among other services:
• Advocacy with landlords and government agencies
• Free monthly grocery delivery
• Friendly visits in the senior’s home
• Regular telephone reassurance
• Emergency cleaning assistance
• Transportation to stores or appointments
• Referrals to other agencies or services

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
