From a press release:

“Local franchise owner Kristen Johnson will open the District of Columbia’s second Chick-fil-A restaurant on Aug. 11, bringing 65 new jobs and the chain’s signature menu of fresh, hand-crafted food and award-winning customer service to the Tenleytown neighborhood.

The new restaurant is located at 4505 Wisconsin Ave. NW, near the Tenleytown-AU Metro Red Line stop. Anyone 13 years and older is invited to stop by any time between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Aug. 10 to participate in a special “Surprise & Delight” grand opening celebration. The special grand opening event takes the place of the First 100 campout typically associated with a Chick-fil-A grand opening. Those interested in participating can find more details as the opening nears on the restaurant’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/chickfilatenleytown/.

Children’s Book Drive

Reflecting her desire to have a positive impact on the surrounding community, Johnson is inviting the community to celebrate the restaurant opening by participating in a children’s book drive. Johnson is collecting new and gently used children’s books from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 10 and Aug. 11. The donated books will be placed in a nearly 3-foot Book House to serve as a free library exchange and will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington. The Book House, built from reclaimed wood, is donated by the Chick-fil-A Foundation (http://www.chick-fil-afoundation.org/). Since 2014, Chick-fil-A has collected more than 21,500 books which were donated to 132 local organizations in 37 states and Washington, D.C.

Restaurant Details

The Tenleytown Chick-fil-A restaurant is an example of the chain’s high-traffic urban In-Line concept, specifically designed for customers on the go. To make ordering faster, customers can order and pay via the Chick-fil-A One mobile app while in transit. The app is designed to give customers more choices to better meet their needs, including the ability to customize their meal, order and pay in advance and skip the line at the register, speeding up the process of waiting at the counter.

The restaurant on Wisconsin Avenue NW seats 49 inside with additional outdoor patio seating. The interior of the restaurant includes subway tile and metals in a variety of finishes and patinas, all complimented by an abundance of windows allowing in plenty of natural light. The vintage-inspired interior includes a community table made of reclaimed timber and other unique custom features such light fixtures made from recycled peach baskets. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., serving a full breakfast menu until 10:30 a.m.

About Franchise Operator Kristen Johnson

Johnson first joined Chick-fil-A nine years ago as a team member and quickly decided her dream was to own a Chick-fil-A restaurant. She continued working in different roles through the years even as she earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Georgia State University, still with a goal of opening her own restaurant. She joined
Chick-fil-A’s corporate leadership development program and managed five of the chain’s locations over two years, including one in Fredericksburg, Va., before being selected to operate the new Tenleytown restaurant. It was during her time in Fredericksburg that she got to know the metro-D.C. area and decided it was a great fit for her entrepreneurial dreams.
“My team members and I can’t wait to join and serve our Tenleytown community and those who pass through this busy area of Washington every day,” said Johnson. “Our goal is to provide a remarkable experience for every customer, every time, by serving food our guests can truly feel good about eating, providing sincere hospitality and being a good neighbor.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
