Your Afternoon Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. Your photos will go into the queue (usually 2 weeks wait) and will be posted in the order I receive them. If you’ve already entered your pet and would like to do so again – that’s no problem – just space the entries out a bit. Please try to send horizontal photos 640×480 (medium size on your iphone) if possible. If you’re not using an iphone any size is fine.

“Sending along a photo of Raina, aka “Traffic Kitty,” who is 6-weeks old. I was in an Uber driving to work a week ago in the rain when I spotted a very very tiny kitty in the middle of 395! The uber driver was nice enough to pull off while I ran back and managed to catch her. She’d been just sitting there alone in a mud puddle, along one of the concrete barriers.

Despite her rough start, she only had minor eye infections and, with treatment, is now doing great! Here are before and after shots of her. The before was taken in the Uber right after we caught her. And, kudos to the Uber driver Michael who was brave enough to stop his car for me so we could rescue her.

Kudos to Atlas Vet who helped nurse her back to health and who waived their normal emergency fee due to “good Samaritanism.”

“I found a cat in our yard last night who doesn’t seem to want to go home. Super friendly, and very clearly belongs to someone. I can be contacted at h_wilson(at)mac.com.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
