Your Afternoon Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. Your photos will go into the queue (usually 2 weeks wait) and will be posted in the order I receive them. If you’ve already entered your pet and would like to do so again – that’s no problem – just space the entries out a bit. Please try to send horizontal photos 640×480 (medium size on your iphone) if possible. If you’re not using an iphone any size is fine.

ripley dumb tongue

This is Lt. Ripley, Ellen, Last Surviving Member of the Starfreighter Nostromo. She is doing her “dumb tongue” pose here. Yes, she is a greyhound; she is not a whippet. Yes, she’s a rescue and she used to race. No, she was not a good racer, which is why we adopted her at 2 and she now lives the good life in Glover Park. Yes, we have seen the other greyhounds in the neighborhood. Yes, she is very fast; she can run faster than 40MPH. No, she doesn’t need a lot of exercise; she sleeps pretty much all the time. She’s basically a giant, skinny cat. (Just preempting all of the usual questions :) )

She lives with her big brother Iggy Pop The Cat, who tolerates her existence. He was enjoying New Years in this picture.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
