Tickets are on sale now for the Smithsonian’s National Zoo’s 12th annual Brew at the Zoo. The event will be held on Thursday, July 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. Hosted by Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ), Brew at the Zoo will feature nearly 100 craft and microbreweries. Local favorites such as Port City Brewing Company and Atlas Brew Works will be joined by popular craft microbreweries including DC Brau Brewing Company, Flying Dog Brewery, and BadWolf Brewing Company.

In addition to sampling great hops, guests will be able to purchase food from local favorites like Ledo’s Pizza, and popular food trucks including Rocklands, Big Cheese, and Red Hook Lobster Pound. Guests will be able to mingle with new and old friends while playing lawn games and enjoying live music by The Reagan Years.

“This event is truly unique,” said Lynn Mento, Executive Director of Friends of the National Zoo. “There are no other beer festivals in DC where you can enjoy amazing beers while listening to the lion’s roar. Best of all, proceeds are used by FONZ to support the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute’s mission to save species.”

Several ticket types are available for purchase. General admission tickets are $50 for FONZ members and $65 for non-members. VIP tickets are $85 for FONZ members and $100 for non-members. VIP ticket holders will be granted early admission to the general admission site, and enjoy access to the VIP area at Great Cats Circle featuring exclusive animal experiences, generous pours of specialty or limited release beers only found in the VIP area, and complimentary food selections from top DC restaurants. Sober driver tickets are also available for $30. Sober drivers will not receive a commemorative mug and will not be served beer. Want to beat the lines? Purchase the add-on early admission ticket for and additional $20 and get access to the event one hour before it opens to the general public.

Please note that space is limited and the event typically sells out. For tickets and details about the event, please visit: www.fonz.org/brew.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
