“On Sunday, January 17, seven top DC chefs will gather at downtown restaurant incubator Prequel for the return of Chefs Behind Bars, a cocktail event to benefit No Kid Hungry’s work to end childhood hunger in America. From 2:00 – 4:30 p.m., over Martin Luther King weekend, Washingtonians can enjoy signature drinks concocted by the city’s most renowned culinary talent to support No Kid Hungry, a national movement to ensure all kids have the healthy food they need, every day.

Throughout the afternoon, chefs Matt Baker (Gravitas), Jen Carroll (Requin by Mike Isabella Group), Andy Clark (Eat the Rich), John Critchley (Brine), Hamilton Johnson (Honeysuckle), Liam LaCivita (Bar Civita), and Yuki Nakandakari (Ocopa) will mix their favorite libations in support of No Kid Hungry. In addition to one-of-a-kind cocktails, guests will enjoy small bites from Hamilton Johnson’s southern inspired restaurant, Honeysuckle, currently popping up at Prequel.

The Chefs Behind Bars happy hour will be hosted by DC’s Taste of the Nation for No Kid Hungry volunteer committee, in anticipation of the 2016 event, which will feature food and drink from the District’s finest chefs, sommeliers and mixologists. The March 2015 tasting benefit raised more than $230,000 to help feed children in need more than two million healthy meals.

All Chefs Behind Bars guests will receive 10 percent off tickets to DC’s Taste of the Nation for No Kid Hungry, taking place on Monday, April 4, 2016, with a special discount code. One hundred percent of ticket proceeds from Taste of the Nation events support No Kid Hungry thanks to generous support from national presenting sponsors Citi and Sysco®, national media sponsor Food Network and national sponsor OpenTable.

One in five children in this country struggles with hunger, and in DC the insecurity rate is even higher at 1 in 4. No Kid Hungry is ending childhood hunger in this nation by ensuring that kids start the day with a nutritious breakfast and have healthy meals in the summer. Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
