Huge score for Van Ness. Not a sentence I think I’ve ever written before. So I gotta say it again, huge score for Van Ness and the new Park Van Ness building. Actually two big scores. First from a press release Soapstone Market:

“Tracy Stannard and John Fielding, creators of Broad Branch Market in Chevy Chase, DC are excited to announce a new concept in Van Ness delivering Spring/Summer 2016. Soapstone Market, an urban grocery and bar with indoor and outdoor cafe seating, will feature prepared foods, grab and go items, baked goods, butcher, seafood and deli counters, an espresso and coffee bar, a beer and wine bar and a fast casual concept where customers can pick from daily offerings to dine in or take away. Like BBM it will be an old time marketplace with modern influences providing a vibrant atmosphere for the local community to gather.

Located in the Park Van Ness building at 4465 Connecticut Ave. NW.”

The Washington Business Journal reports:

“Chef Fabio Trabocchi is betting on another D.C. spot. The chef and his wife, Maria Trabocchi, have signed a lease to open a pasta-focused restaurant called Sfoglina on Connecticut Avenue NW near the Van Ness Metro station on the Red Line.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
