What the heck is the REI Thingamajig? It’s a community gear swap in a beer garden with live music. Yes, that’s right: you can buy/sell/barter/trade used gear with other outdoor lovers while you listen to live Appalachian music and sip on craft beer in an outdoor setting. Oh, and the music is produced by Living Classrooms- our friends behind the Kingman Island Bluegrass and Folk Festival. That means that the bands will be killer AND a portion of the entry price goes to support their amazing work providing supplemental environmental education to DCPS students. Sound awesome? We think so too.
$7 gets you in the door ($2 from each attendee going to support Living Classrooms).

The first 50 people in the door with used gear to sell get a ticket for a free beer.
All people bringing gear to sell will get table space to merchandise their wares.
REI will NOT be selling used gear – this event is a platform for the outdoor community to sell items that they’re no longer using. You know that old tent in the back of your closet? Or that jacket that doesn’t fit right so you never wear it? Bring it and sell it.
All sales are person to person. REI will not be running a cash register. Bring cash to buy gear if you’re shopping, and cash to make change if you’re selling.
This is a swap for outdoor gear with some restrictions. No guns, knives, hatchets, or anything that could be construed as a weapon. No motors – human powered transport items only. No Life-protecting technical rock climbing equipment (ropes, hardware, protection, helmets). Think tents, jackets, pants, flashlights, stoves, etc. Bikes are ok. Items should be in decent shape and clean. Please tag your items for sale with a price ahead of time. REI reserves the right to review and refuse items for sale.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
