From an email:

“Ye olde Black Squirrel village welcomes wenches and princes alike to our Men in Tights Mead Day Renaissance Faire , Saturday, August 1st, starting at 12 noon.

Fasten up your corset, hitch up your tights, and go back in time to merry olde England.

Quench your thirst with a goblet of the finest mead; sate your appetite with a gigantic turkey leg, knave sandwich, or succulent steak-on-a-stake.

Test your skill at the ancient sport of cornhole or indulge in an Elizabethan drinking game.

The long celebrated European tradition of mead-making is experiencing a revival, right here in river city. Guests will be able to sample some of the finest modern mead, including those from:

♦ Charm City Meadery,
♦ Moonlight Meadery,
♦ B. Nektar Meadery, and
♦ Honey Grail Meadery.

A representative from locally based Honey Grail Meadery will be on hand to talk mead making and distribute samples of its Boudica’s Uprising Honey Mead.

Those who arrive dressed as a medieval maiden, Scottish lass, Crusader, or druid– or a kilt flashing in the manner of William Wallace–will receive 10 percent off their bill.

Go on, smite thy thirst”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
