“Chef Deth & Chef Seng are combining forces to launch Khao Poon, DC’s first Lao Noodle House. They’re going to kick off the effort with some pop-up events at different locations as they lead up to securing the new restaurant’s permanent location. Khao Poon will offer a unique culinary experience featuring noodle dishes inspired by traditional Lao cuisine as well as that of the surrounding countries.
Khao Poon, in Lao, means “rice vermicelli noodles.” Our restaurant will offer a variety of delicious noodle dishes combining spices, seasonings and sauces of the region with fresh, local and sustainable ingredients sourced from as close to Washington, D.C. as possible.
You have an opportunity to be a part of this exciting new venture! Deth and Seng want to tap into the creative talent of their DC area supporters by offering prizes for the best Khao Poon logo designs that YOU submit. Please unlock your creative juices and send your logo submissions to [email protected] .
In addition to the pride of knowing that your work will be on permanent display on our marquee and menu as well as on social media, we will offer prizes for the top three submissions:
First place: You win. Your design is the Khao Poon logo. As thanks we will offer a $100 gift certificate to Thip Khao, and you plus three guests a VIP invitation to the first pop-up as well as the grand opening when we open the restaurant.
Second place: Invitation for you and one guest to the first pop-up as well as a traditional steamer pot & bamboo basket plus sticky rice basket.
Third place: Invitation for you and one guest to the first pop-up as well as a Authentic Lao Cuisine cookbook by Lao American Women Association.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
