Yikes! Armed and Dangerous – Prison Escapee carjacks second vehicle in DC

Not what I expect to read on the Petworth Listserv but it sure woke me up. 

Maryland State Police have identified the inmate as 45-year-old Kelvin Poke (pictured below). Police say Poke, who was serving life plus 40 years at the Jessup Correctional Institution for kidnapping, carjacking and robbery, was admitted to the hospital on Dec. 31 around 2 a.m. for chest pains. Anyone who has seen Poke or has any information on his whereabouts should call Maryland State Police at 301-345-3101 or The DC Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099.

Kelvin Poke- black male, Height-6’ 3”, Weight- 235lbs.

The suspect escaped from the scene in a 1993 Blue Toyota Camry and which was located in Washington DC at the 1100 block of 1st St. NW on fire. The suspect has carjacked another vehicle, WHITE FORD TRUCK, DC Tag- DC 3690. Direction of travel is unknown.”

Update from Petworth Listserv:  The Regional Threat and Analysis Center is reporting that the suspect (reported as an escapee in an earlier broadcast) is in custody with the Prince Georges County Police and Maryland State Police following a shootout. The suspect was captured in Suitland , MD in the vicinity of the Cedar Hill Cemetery . Condition of the suspect is unknown.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
