Dear PoPville – Does Anyone Have any Info about this Sick Person(s) that did this?

“Dear PoPville,

I am a concerned citizen and I wanted to share a disturbing incident that happened on Biltmore St in Adams Morgan between Saturday night and Sunday morning. A photo my roommate took is attached – I apologize for its graphic nature. Ed. Note: I’m not posting the photo but verify that it matches that account below.

It shows a robin, that had apparently been snared and tied to a tree. I have no idea if this happened after the poor thing expired and some sick person thought it would be funny or if a truly disturbed individual caught and tied the bird to the post to struggle until its ultimate demise. judging by the number of feathers and the way the string was wrapped around the tree I would guess it was the latter.

Some other neighbors on the street posted a note above bird that said the incident had been reported and that if anybody had any details about it to call animal control.

This is disgusting. I only wanted to share it with you all because you can get the word out to catch or at least prevent the sick person(s) who did this.”

In addition to 911 you can report animal cruelty cases to the Washington Humane Society Officers (202) 723-5730.

UPDATE from the Washington Humane Society:

“$3,000 REWARD

On Sunday, June 1, 2014, the Washington Humane Society was notified of a deceased robin that was tied by the neck to a tree with a piece of string at the corner of Biltmore St. and Cliffbourne Pl. NW DC.

The female robin was found with severe injuries to the body as well as around the neck where the string was tied. A necropsy of the body revealed that these injuries occurred while the bird was still alive and her death was a result of blunt trauma to the body and a dislocated neck. These injuries are consistent with the bird being swung/shaken/hit while tied to the string.

The Washington Humane Society is seeking the help of the community for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this horrific act of animal cruelty. The Washington Humane Society is offering a $3,000 reward that will be given to any person who provides such information.

If you have any information about this case, please contact Officer D’Eramo at the Washington Humane Society Humane Law Enforcement Department:

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
