“Dear PoPville,

I just got word that the Channel Inn will be closing at the end of April. No other details beyond that, but will certainly be the end of an era.”

I called the Channel Inn and they say that they just heard March 31st will be their last day. Their website says:

“Washington’s only waterfront hotel” is a highlight feature of the waterfront with picturesque views of the District’s Gangplank Marina. We are an excellent choice of location and the value for your overnight stay. Within 15 minutes of Washington, D.C. Mall and the entire tourist attraction area that includes such sights as the Air and Space Museum, the Smithsonian Institute, and the National Gallery of Art. A step away from the hotel entrance is the Waterfront Metro Station that travels to all the major areas of the Washington, D.C. business and tourist areas. For the business traveler we are minutes away from the Capitol, NASA, Fort McNair, and the Washington Navy Yard. The Channel Inn has beautifully appointed spacious Washington DC hotel rooms and suites with either Double or Queen beds all complete with balconies for your relaxing pleasure. The Hotel houses the famous Pier 7 Restaurant that is famous with local residents for its fine Seafood and Steak menu. For business or pleasure there is no finer value.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
