“Dear PoPville,
For those who run, walk, bike along the closed road section of Beach Drive, it will be open to cars this Saturday 24th. Go early/late, or adjust your routes.”
From the National Park Service:

“The National Park Service will host a scenic driving day on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., when the entire length of Beach Drive within Rock Creek Park will be open to motor vehicles. The event provides an opportunity for visitors to experience the park from their vehicles, including those who may have limited mobility.
Scenic Driving Days are offered twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. The fall event allows visitors to enjoy seasonal scenery along Beach Drive.
NPS park rangers and staff from the Rock Creek Conservancy will be at Picnic Grove 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to greet visitors, answer questions, lead activities and share information about responsible recreation in Rock Creek Park. Visitors may stop at picnic areas with parking lots and use designated pull-offs along portions of Beach Drive that are normally closed to motor vehicles.
All vehicles must be moved by 4 p.m., when Beach Drive closes to motor vehicle traffic.
Visitors who usually walk or bicycle along Beach Drive are encouraged to plan alternate routes or locations on Oct. 24. Walking and bicycling along Beach Drive are not recommended while the road is open to motor vehicles. All park users should remain alert, follow posted speed limits and share the road.
Except for the two annual Scenic Driving Days, Upper Beach Drive will remain closed to motorized vehicles.
