“Dear PoPville,
I built a free map of all 317 fixed speed, red-light and stop-sign cameras in DC from DDOT’s open data, and thought it might be of interest.
For each camera it shows the stretch of street it watches, the direction of travel, the posted limit and 12 months of ticket counts, refreshed monthly. I see it as a safety tool:
cameras deter speeding most effectively when their locations are known, and a clear public map turns each one into a visible reason to ease off on the streets where people walk and bike.
A few figures for Sep 2025 to Aug 2026:
– 2.44 million tickets, about one every 13 seconds
– 174 of the 222 speed cameras sit in 25 mph zones
– Wards 5 and 7 account for 45% of all tickets”
