“Dear PoPville,
I witnessed a brutal dog mauling on Friday evening across the street from the Georgia Ave / Petworth station. Man on concrete wall had 2 pit bulls. Man showed gross negligence and had his dogs on leash, but was not holding the leashes. Dogs saw other dog and owner walking by, about 20 feet away, and they turned on the dog and owner. Both bit bulls attacked
an adult Labrador retriever. Larger pit bull latched on to head of the lab and would not let go. Owner was fighting for his dogs life and got bit by the pit bull in the process. Cops finally got on scene and were able to separate the animals. The lab was rushed to the vet ER with a completely detached ear. Owner was rushed to treat bite and other minor injuries.
Police report was taken, animal control case opened… yet nothing has been done. The same man and pit bulls were on the same busy corner the next day, while the lab is fighting for his life with thousands of dollars in vet bills. No recourse.”
