“Dear PoPville,
Was just wondering if you have heard anything about the gunshots or shooting in Columbia Heights on 8/23. At 10:42 pm, there were 20+ gunshots around 13th & Columbia Rd. Dozens of cops were searching the alley with a flashlight, then helicopters flew over for a while as well.
Didn’t seem like a successful search. They searched the alley on the 1300 block between Columbia rd & Harvard st. 
Was wondering if you or anyone else in the community had heard anything because there’s absolutely nothing online. I have searched for information for a few days and come up empty. We called the MPD non-emergency line 30 minutes after it happened, but the dispatcher told us she was in the station so she didn’t know what is going on and that we should go outside and ask the officers.
Obviously we often to hear gunshots in Columbia Heights, but this was the most I have heard here and seemed bad.”
MPD tells me: “On Sunday, August 23, 2026, at approximately 10:42 p.m., Third District officers responded to the 2900 block of 13th Street NW for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found evidence of a shooting, but no victim on scene.“
