driving dangerously

“Help! Hit by a Maryland driver…”

“Dear PoPville,

On Saturday August 1 at about 4:40 pm, I was driving in the inner lanes of Nebraska Ave NW through Ward Circle NW at American University. I was in the left hand lane, which is a “go straight only” lane. A red Mazda CX-5 with Maryland plates that was in the right lane next to me (also a “go straight only” lane) attempted to turn left onto Mass ave as we were crossing the circle and hit my car. At the time of the accident, the driver kept saying, “Traffic circles are just so confusing,” and apologized. But now that I’ve filed a claim against her insurance,

she’s trying to say that I was at fault, and according to the insurance companies it’s my word against hers. This is a long shot, but did anyone happen to see this go down? Or relatedly, have other people had any luck resolving this sort of disaster without paying a ton of out of pocket costs they shouldn’t have to pay? And (as someone who’s also been hit by an out of state driver as a DC pedestrian) how can we get DC officials to FINALLY start forcing out of state drivers to behave better or own the consequences??”
