Yesterday, while waiting for a court at Banneker, I overheard a group shaming pickleball players. They were making comments like, “Why are we even allowing them?” and “They should leave room for serious sport players.”
Beyond the “high school bully” tone,
they were simply incorrect. According to DPR rules, pickleball is explicitly permitted on tennis courts. More importantly, public courts are meant to be inclusive spaces for everyone, regardless of the sport or skill level.
Please be more mindful when using public spaces. If you want an elitist club, join and pay for one!”
