If you’ve ever wandered through Community Forklift’s reuse warehouse store, you know it’s more than a place to find salvaged building materials and home goods. It’s a space full of stories, creativity, and community, and we’re excited to invite our neighbors to experience that energy at our free 2026 events!
Throughout the year, Community Forklift hosts events from relaxed evenings with live music to seasonal pop-ups and community partnerships. These gatherings are designed to be welcoming, accessible, and fun for all ages.
Our popular First Friday series returns this year with themed events that highlight different parts of our region and the role reuse plays in shaping them. In May, we’ll celebrate the Anacostia River and the communities connected by it. June brings a focus on bicycling and sustainable transportation. After a summer break, First Fridays return in September with a look at historic homes and the stories they hold, followed by a Halloween-themed evening in October.
Each First Friday event is free to attend and features a laid-back, family-friendly atmosphere with live music, local food vendors, activities, and opportunities to connect with community groups doing important work across the region. Whether you come to browse our reuse store, learn something new, or just enjoy a Friday night with neighbors, there’s something for everyone.
We’ll be holding additional special events throughout the year as well, including our Garden Supply Pop-Up Shop in April, our curated Forklift Flash Shop at metrobar DC in August, and our Small Business Saturday salvaged Holiday Pop-Up Shop and market of local vendors and artists in November. These seasonal events highlight different ways reuse can show up in everyday life, from gardening and home projects to creative expression.
At its core, Community Forklift is a reuse nonprofit dedicated to keeping usable materials out of the landfill and making them accessible to the community. Our reuse warehouse store is open to the public and offers salvaged building materials, furniture, and home goods at below-market prices. And, our material access programs provide free supplies to neighbors in need and local nonprofits, schools, and community groups.
But just as important is our role as a community connector that creates spaces where people can share knowledge, resources, and inspiration, and our events are one way we bring that mission to life. They’re a chance to see reuse in action, meet others who care about sustainability, and experience our reuse warehouse in a whole new way.
Explore the full 2026 events calendar on our website and RSVP for free to receive event updates and reminders. We’re open seven days a week, 10am-5pm, and hope to see you at the reuse warehouse soon!
