Update from a reader: “Leon needs our grace right now, he’s trying really hard to get back on top of his customers’ orders. He was assaulted over the holiday and is having a family emergency. Would we have preferred he put a sign up and let us know how to reach him or when he would be back? Sure. But none of us know what we will be able to handle when something terrible happens and you are the only one running the shop. Leon does good work and he is honest. There are very few cobblers left in the city or anywhere. It’s hard dirty work, and no one is apprenticing anymore. So while we have a few good craftsmen in our city we may need to acknowledge that when something really hard happens in their life, we may not get our shoes on time.”

Leon’s Shoe Repair in Mt Pleasant is a staple in the neighborhood. He hasn’t been open or there for about a month,
and I’m wondering if anyone knows what happened to him. On that note, I dropped off multiple pairs of my shoes for him to fix months ago, but since he hasn’t opened shop in about a month I haven’t been able to get my shoes that I’ve already paid to be repaired.
Wondering if anyone knows if he’s ok, what happened, and how I get my shoes back (some of them have sentimental value). Thanks!”
