Logan Circle

“These repeated hit-and-runs really affect people’s lives, and it just really sucks.”

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to share something that happened to me last week as I was heading to work on Monday. I usually park on the street, and when I walked to my car that morning, I saw it had been hit pretty badly. Imagine waking up and finding your car damaged to the point where it was almost undriveable—I had to tape it together just to get it to a shop. It was a hit-and-run.

This is actually the second hit-and-run I’ve experienced in the last six months in the same area of Logan Circle.

This most recent one happened near the Homewood Suites Hotel on Massachusetts Ave and 15th St NW. I parked my car around midnight on Saturday (December 27th) and discovered the damage Monday morning around 9 AM, so it likely happened on Sunday the 28th.

I’m a healthcare worker, and my job requires me to drive to people’s homes to treat them. I only get paid per visit, so now I’m dealing with a $500 deductible, no car, and trying to get to patients in the snow using public transportation—which often takes too long—or paying for Ubers I can’t really afford. I’ve even had to cancel some appointments because I simply can’t reach certain neighborhoods without my car.

What’s also mind-blowing is how the car was even hit. When you see the photos, it almost makes no sense how someone hit the side of a parked car that close to the sidewalk. My brain can’t wrap around how it happened.

If anyone saw anything, has camera footage, or if the person who hit my car is brave enough to come forward—especially with help toward the cost of repairs (which at this point would feel like a Christmas miracle), I would be incredibly grateful. These repeated hit-and-runs really affect people’s lives, and it just really sucks.

Thank you.”
